Treatments by Dr ClaireDon’t Wait Any Longer. Renew yourself!
Also known as photochemotherapy, this treatment is a form of phototherapy using nontoxic light-sensitive compounds that are exposed selectively to light, whereupon they become toxic to targeted malignant and other diseased cells (phototoxicity).
This treatment is useful for:
- Localised or “field” treatment of photo damaged skin.
- Early stages of dysplastic skin lesions such as squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas
- Resistant acne
- Certain forms of scarring
- Skin rejuvenation
The procedure takes a few hours while you are exposed to a special light with the photo sensitising cream on. The procedure requires some down time with peeling, redness and swelling experienced afterwards. Sessions are performed monthly for 1-3 months, depending on the indication. Thereafter maintenance is recommended yearly for photo-ageing and previous treatment of malignancies.
